Obituary: Walter Dostmann (1956 – 2024)

The Senior Executive Roundtable of German-American Companies in the United States, Die Wirtschaftsrunde, mourns the passing of Walter C. Dostmann, a distinguished leader in the German American business community. Walter was born on March 24, 1956, in Kleve, Germany, and peacefully departed on February 14, 2024, in Greenwich, CT. For 22 years, Walter served as co-chair of Die Wirtschaftsrunde, where he championed the advancement of bilateral business expansion and investment between Germany and The United States. His dedication strengthened transatlantic relations across political, cultural, and social spheres, earning him Germany’s highest order of merit, the prestigious Bundesverdienstkreuz. Beyond his professional achievements, Walter was cherished for his warmth and hospitality, hosting gatherings in his Greenwich home alongside his beloved wife, Gudrun. A passionate sportsman, he found joy on the golf and tennis courts, and cherished family vacations at his Marbella retreat. Walter’s illustrious career at Deutsche Bank in New York began in 1980, where he later led the Corporate Finance Department of Deutsche Bank Securities from 1990-1999. Subsequently, as President of Dostmann and Partners LLC, he provided invaluable business counsel to corporations across the United States and Europe. Walter is survived by his devoted wife, Gudrun, and their sons, Sebastian and Felix. His profound legacy as a leader, friend, and advocate for transatlantic collaboration will endure in the hearts of those he touched. We will miss Walter, his enthusiasm and dedication, his humor and most of all his friend- ship. In remembrance and gratitude, Die Wirtschaftsrunde
